Liceo de Cagayan University

A post-liberation institution, Liceo de Cagayan University was founded in 1955 by the late Atty. Rodolfo Neri Pelaez of Cagayan de Oro City and his wife, Elsa Pelaez Pelaez of Cebu City, with the primary vision ‘of affording the youth in Northern Mindanao an opportunity to pursue relevant, quality education and facilitating their total human formation anchored in moral values and Christian precepts.

The Liceo de Cagyaan University remains as the flagship Company of the ZEALEP Inc. and is presently headed by its 3rd President, Dr. Mariano M. Lerin and Dr. Rafaelita Pelaez-Pelaez, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

As a closed family corporation, the University has a flat organization and lean administrative staff, which makes her management responsive, effective, and action-oriented.

During her first 25 years, Liceo de Cagayan University was exclusively a tertiary-level institution that offered courses in Law, Commerce, Engineering, and Liberal Arts. It was in 1981 when the Basic Education Department, consisting of the primary and secondary levels, completed the three curricular levels that the University is currently offering.

In 1998, the University became the first in the country to offer a graduate program, the Diploma/Master of Local Governance Scholarship Program, funded by the Canadian government and the Civil Service Commission.

Her formal installation as a full-fledged University bestows on her the distinction of being the first private non-sectarian University, and the first in the City in 39 years.
